With Ontario's Provincial Emergency and Stay-at-Home order in effect, should I be continuing my Massage treatment?

Ontarians should be staying at home with the exception of essential trips like picking up groceries or going to medical appointments.

When is Massage Therapy "Essential"?

Ask yourself these questions and/or communicate with your RMT:

  • Will my condition worsen without treatment (e.g. physical symptoms, associated mental health, acute pain/injury, chronic unstable condition)?
  • Am I likely to suffer acute, severe or imminent harm if treatment is delayed (e.g. unstable chronic condition, new symptoms requiring a physical exam)?
  • Am I at high risk to experience severe outcomes if I contract COVID-19 (e.g. asthmatic, diabetes, immune compromised, over age of 65)?
  • Bear in mind if the risk of COVID-19 to the client and RMT is higher than the expected benefit of treatment, the RMT may delay treatment until the community risk decreases.

Massage Therapy also has three of five key factors associated with transmission:

  •      Close Contact
  •      Closed Spaces
  •      Prolonged Exposure

The other two factors are:

  •      Forceful Exhalation and
  •      Crowded Places.

We continue to implement all of our infection prevention and control guidelines to keep our office space as safe as we can and minimize risk of transmission.

Expect to be contacted by your RMT regarding your upcoming appointment to help you determine if in-person treatment is the best option for your on-going care during these unprecedented times.
